PRANAYAMA refers to the breathing technique in Yoga, which can work wonders in improving the overall health and the functions of all the organs in the body.
It teaches you to change the depth, rate and pattern of breathing. Pranayama is a Sanskrit word which literally translates into “extension of the prana or breath”. 'Prana' means life-force and it is the life-force or vital energy that pervades the body. Prana is the link between mind and consciousness.
MEDITATION is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state. It is the means for fathoming all the levels of ourselves and finally experiencing the center of consciousness within. Meditation is not a part of any religion; it is a science, which means that the process of meditation follows a particular order, has definite principles, and produces results that can be verified.
Meditation is a practical means for calming yourself, for letting go of your biases and seeing what is, openly and clearly. It is a way of training the mind so that you are not distracted and caught up in its endless churning. Meditation teaches you to systematically explore your inner dimensions.
"Eight months after a car accident I had tried physical therapy, massage, pain medications, anti-inflammatory diets, acupuncture and both going and not going to the gym, all of which did little or nothing to decrease my sciatic nerve pain or restore my range of motion and functioning.
After finally agreeing to back surgery I was left with the question of how to begin to put my life back together.
Jean Becker, owner of Body Mind & Spirit Yoga Center-Puyallup was my answer. Jean has custom designed a yoga program specific to my injury and working with her individually has been very helpful. With Jean's help I am increasing my range of motion, I am no longer using pain meds and my pain has significantly decreased. I feel more optomistic about my potentIal for a full recovery. THANK YOU JEAN!" Monica
***"Jean Becker is a patient, intuitive and gifted yoga teacher. She has helped me tremendously with my chronic pain and stamina issues.
She teaches private and semi-private lessons in her beautifully appointed yoga studio. Her fees are half that of any other studio for private lessons.
I highly recommend her to anyone who has pain, stamina or flexibility issues." Ellie
***"After recently having a large meningioma brain tumor removed, one of the nurses suggested that I look into taking Restorative Yoga sessions to help me in my recovery as I had quite a bit of sensory damage to my left side and definite balance issues.
I had never heard of Restorative Yoga, but her advice resonated with me. I really didn't think I stood a chance of finding a session in South Pierce County---Restorative Yoga sounded very Bellevue & King County to me!
I did an on-line search and imagine my surprise & delight to find a private studio on South Hill Puyallup. I called Jean & she recommended private sessions and it has been a delightful, successful adventure. She has been so good at working with my limitations and helping coordinate postures that complement my physical therapy. In fact we've incorporated more styles of yoga than just Restorative Yoga!
In the three months that I have been attending private sessions with Jean, my range of motion has increased, my left side weakness has improved greatly & my balance has enhanced considerably.
This has been accomplished with her very caring attention to proper form and body alignment in her lovely studio. I had never taken yoga before & I know now that she has started me on a life-long habit. I am very grateful."
